Flute Circle Listserv Guidelines

- To post to the listserv, address your email to:

flutecircle@mailman.montana.com

once you send your post/email, the listserv handles the rest.

- Once you have subscribed, if you could introduce yourself to the listserv, it will give us all a chance to get to know you better. It is wonderful to have you joining us and we would like to know a little bit about yourself.

- The listserv is here to promote and nurture our love and interest of, and information about the Native American flute and anything that relates to that topic. Another part of this listserv is to maintain the kind of wonderful connection that is formed at the Renaissance of the Native American Flute gatherings, showing support, good humor, non-competitiveness, and a great deal of diversity.

_ It is important to note that we do not allow subject matter bridging into politics, religion, or theology. It is just too difficult of a topic to bring something of this nature up on this forum. Discussing politics or religion even with the closest of family or friends can find some very upset people. Stay focused with your topics to the Native American Flute.

- Express your thoughts, opinions, and feelings in a healthy, constructive manner that doesn't step on someone or something that is basically a personal attack or confrontation with someone.

- Don't publicly "flame" each other. If you have an issue that is likely to get emotional or personal - email that person and work on your issues privately, all the while being as respectful as you can be toward the individual you are upset with.

- When opinions differ, try to use "I" statements when addressing those differences - "I disagree because...." not "You are so wrong..."

- Talk about the Native American flute, their music, the philosophy that is a part of the NAF, and those topics that are related to the NAF, such as recording, composing, TAB, playing the NAF, what playing/listening/ making them does to you physically and emotionally.

- You may have a topic that won't interest a large number of people on the listserv - share it anyway. A large part of why this listserv exists is to encourage *discussion* on all topics. Whether the topic is your favorite wood for a flute to be made out of, whether you prefer playing a 5 hole flute over a 6 hole, what Khz you find recording the flute best, or your favorite place to play a flute...or...we want discussions on all topics - intice someone/everyone to engage in some discussion.

- Be aware that this group has a lot of diversity - people from different cultures, different backgrounds, different personalities, different ways in which they interact with others. We all like/love playing/making/ listening/recording with/to the NAF and have rich varied interests in this area. Let's respect that.

- Be aware of your posts. If you are replying to a post that interests you, *please* edit the post. Don't reply to a post, including the entire post, only to address one point in the post. Delete all the text except the topic you are addressing/replying to.

- Also, if you are replying to a post that is really more directed to the individual you are replying to and not the entire listserv, email that person privately with your reply/commment. A number of individuals who belong to the listserv accumulate a great deal of email and also are very busy in other areas of their life. Being considerate of this will help assure we keep those members as well as keeping the email traffic more manageable.

- Don't attach files larger than 30 or 40 K, they cause the listserv to bounce the post.

- If you are ever wondering about how to change your email address to a new one, or are just wanting to unsubscribe completely, follow the directions as outlined here.

Subscribing to the listserv, changing your email address from an old address to a new, or just unsubscribing from the listserv is fairly straight forward. I will outline exactly what one needs to do to subscribe to the listserv. To make sure you are able to subscribe to the listserv without a problem, I am going to be very detailed in my instructions.

To subscribe to the listserv, you need to send an email using the email account you want subscribed to the listserv, to:

To unsubscribe from the listserv, again you need to send the email from the email account you specifically want unsubscribed to:

flutecircle-unsubscribe@mailman.montana.com
